Detailed data
Woodward 9907-167 Digital Governor
The 505E controller is designed to operate single extraction and/or inlet steam turbines of all sizes and applications. This steam turbine controller includes specially designed algorithms and logic to start, stop, control and protect single extraction and/or inlet steam turbines or turboexpanders driving generators, compressors, pumps or industrial fans.
The 505E controller’s unique PID architecture makes it ideal for applications requiring control of steam plant parameters such as turbine speed, turbine load, turbine inlet pressure, exhaust header pressure, extraction or inlet header pressure or tie line power.
The controller’s special PID-to-PID logic allows for stable control during normal turbine operation and bumpless control mode transitions during plant faults, minimizing process overshoot or undershoot conditions. The 505E controller senses turbine speed via a passive or active speed probe and controls the steam turbine via HP and LP actuators connected to the turbine steam valves.
The 505E controller senses the extraction and/or intake pressure via a 4–20 mA sensor and uses PID via a ratio/limiter function to precisely control the extraction and/or intake header pressure while preventing the turbine from operating outside of its designed operating range. The controller uses the OEM steam map for the specific turbine to calculate its valve-to-valve decoupling algorithm and turbine operating and protection limits.
The Digital Governor505/505E controller can communicate directly with a plant distributed control system and/or CRT-based operator control panel via two Modbus communications ports. These ports support RS-232, RS-422, and RS-485 communications using either ASCII or RTU Modbus transfer protocols.
Communications between the 505/505E and the plant DCS can also be performed via a hardwired connection. Since all 505 PID setpoints can be controlled via analog input signals, interface resolution and control are not sacrificed.
The 505/505E is a field configurable steam turbine control and operator control panel integrated into one package. The 505/505E has a comprehensive operator control panel on the front panel, including a two-line (24 characters each) display and a set of 30 keys. The OCP is used to configure the 505/505E, make online program adjustments, and operate the turbine/system.
The 505/505E can also serve as the first output indicator of a system shutdown, thereby reducing troubleshooting time. Multiple system shutdowns (3) can be input to the 505/505E, allowing it to safely shut down the system and lock out the cause of the shutdown.
Frequently asked questions about the product are as follows:
-What is the Woodward 9907-167 Digital Governor?
It is a digital governor used to precisely control the speed and power output of an engine or turbine. It adjusts the fuel supply to maintain the desired speed or load.
-How does a digital governor work?
-The Woodward 9907-167 uses digital control algorithms to adjust the fuel flow to the engine based on input from sensors that measure speed, load, and other parameters.
-Can the governor be integrated into a larger control system?
It can be integrated into a wider control system via Modbus or other communication protocols.
