Detailed data
GE IS420UCSBH4A Mark VIe Controller
The IS420UCSBH4A is a UCSB controller module manufactured by General Electric, belonging to the Mark VIe series, for gas turbine control systems with a 1066 MHz Intel EP80579 microprocessor. The application code is executed by a separate computer called a UCSB controller. The controller is installed in a panel and communicates with the I/O package through an onboard 1/0 network (IONet) interface. Only Mark control I/O modules and controllers are supported by a dedicated Ethernet network (called IONet). The operating system (OS) of the controller is QNX Neutrino, a real-time, multi-tasking operating system developed for industrial applications that require high speed and reliability. The UCSB controller does not have any application I/O host, while traditional controllers host application I/O on the backplane. In addition, each controller has access to all I/O networks, providing it with all input data.
If the controller is shut down for maintenance or repair, the hardware and software architecture ensures that no single application input point is lost. Implement functional safety loops using the Mark VIeS UCSBSIA Safety controller and Safety 1/0 modules to achieve SIL 2 and 3 capabilities. Operators familiar with SIS applications use Mark Vles Safety devices to reduce risk in critical safety functions. These specific control hardware and software have IEC 61508 certification and are specifically configured to work with safety controllers and distributed I/O modules.
UCSB Mounting:
A single module mounted directly to the panel sheet metal contains the controller. The dimensions of the module housing and mounting are shown in the following figure. Each measurement is in inches. The UCSB must be attached to the panel as shown and vertical airflow through the heat sink is unobstructed.
UCSB Software and Communications:
Software customized for use with the controller is installed. Rungs or blocks can be run by it. Minor changes to the control software can be made online without rebooting. The I/O package and the controller's clock are synchronized to within 100 microseconds via R, S and T IONets using the IEEE 1588 protocol. External data is sent to and received from the control system database in the controller via R, S and T IONets. This includes the process inputs and outputs of the I/O modules.
UCSB Startup LED:
In the absence of errors, the startup LED remains on throughout the startup process. If an error is detected, the LED will flash once per second (Hz). The LED flashes for 500 milliseconds and then turns off. After the flashing phase, the LED remains off for three seconds. The number of flashes indicates the failure condition.
Frequently asked questions about the product are as follows:
What is the IS420UCSBH4A used for?
The IS420UCSBH4A is the controller module for the Mark VIe system and is part of the Universal Control System (UCS) family. It has a variety of functions including process control of industrial processes such as turbine and generator control. Data acquisition for monitoring sensors and other field devices. Communication with other control modules, input/output (I/O) systems, and higher-level monitoring systems.
What are the main functions of the IS420UCSBH4A?
It supports Ethernet serial and proprietary GE protocols to communicate seamlessly with other modules and devices within the system. The IS420UCSBH4A is equipped with a powerful processor and is capable of handling complex control algorithms and high-speed data processing. The integrated diagnostics controller includes built-in diagnostic functions including LED indicators for fault detection and troubleshooting. The IS420UCSBH4A can be used in redundant configurations with other controllers to ensure high availability and fault tolerance in mission-critical systems.
What is the difference between the IS420UCSBH4A and other UCS controllers?
The IS420UCSBH4A is a specific model within the UCS family, designed for specific control and processing tasks. Key differences may include performance and capacity. Depending on the specific requirements of the application, some UCS controllers are designed with hot standby or fault tolerance features to ensure that critical processes continue to operate normally in the event of a hardware failure.
