As part of Emerson Intelligent SIS, the DeltaV SIS process safety system ushers in the next generation of safety instrumented systems (SIS). This intelligent SIS approach leverages the power of predictive field intelligence to improve the availability of the entire safety instrumented function.
The world first intelligent SIS. Studies have shown that more than 85% of faults in SIS applications occur in the field instruments and final control elements. The DeltaV SIS process safety system has the first intelligent logic solver. It uses the HART protocol to communicate with smart field devices to diagnose faults before they cause nuisance trips. This approach increases process availability and reduces lifecycle costs.
Flexible Deployment. Traditionally, process safety systems have either been deployed independently of the control system or connected to the control system through an engineering interface based on open protocols such as Modbus. However, most end users require a higher level of integration to configure, maintain, and operate the environment. DeltaV SIS can be deployed to connect with any DCS or integrated with the DeltaV DCS. Integration is achieved without sacrificing functional separation because safety functions are implemented in separate hardware, software, and networks while being seamlessly integrated on the workstation.
Easily comply with IEC 61511. IEC 61511 requires strict user management, which the DeltaV SIS process safety system provides. IEC 61511 requires that any changes made by the HMI (such as trip limits) be fully reviewed to ensure that the correct data is written to the correct logic solver. The DeltaV SIS process safety system automatically provides this data validation.
Scalable to fit any size application. Whether you have a stand-alone wellhead or a large ESD/fire and gas application, the DeltaV SIS process safety system is scalable to provide you with the safety coverage you need for SIL 1, 2, and 3 safety functions. Each SLS 1508 logic solver has dual CPUs and 16 I/O channels built in. This means that there is no need for additional processors to scale the system because each logic solver contains its own CPU. Scan rates and memory usage are constant and independent of system size.
